March 25, 2009 - Matthew Eddy will be giving a presentation on the fundamental controls of a camera.  What is being considered the fundamental controls of the camera are the film speed/ISO, shutter speed, and f/stop.  This will also include the affects each of these controls have on the final image, and touch on topics such as digital noise, film grain, motion blur, stopped action, depth of field, camera shake and panning.  If time allows, the presentation will also delve into the various compositional elements that make up an image.

Matthew Eddy got his first taste of photography when taking a class in high school, and he was hooked.  Following high school, he was accepted into the California Summer School for the Arts program, at Cal Arts in Valencia California where he first shot medium format film, tried his hand at color darkroom processing, and shot infrared B&W film.  In college, while pursuing a degree in management, he also took all the photography classes offered at the various colleges he attended.  In 2007, he got his first DSLR and had been shooting only digital until the winter of this year.  For the last 1.5 years he has been teaching an introduction to photography class through the Ann Arbor Education and Recreation department as well as starting his own business shooting events, and volunteering for the Washtenaw County Red Cross as a photographer.

March 26, 2008 - 'Digital Painting' presented by Donald Pavlica

I have been painting for about 5 years now. Once I started I could not stop. It's like I was meant to paint. The past few years I have painted everything from Harleys , Dogs , Cats, bars, sunsets, gardens, flowers and people. I have participated in the Howell Farmers Market and Brighton Farmers market last year just to get my toes in the water. I never intended to sell any art but just have the opportunity to paint mostly anything for anyone. My hope is to get connected with a few great photographers and paint their photos and stretch myself into portrait painting for a living ( when I retire of course) or now, why not!. Freelance art is also a possibility. I have taken several Corel sponsored Painter courses and am scheduled to take another starting in April ( for pet portraits only ). I am currently working on two comissions and planning on a larger one this summer for Lest They Be Forgotten Memorial in Brighton. I am also working on a collage on pets which will take me about two years to complete. There are only about 10 Master Corel Portrait Artists in the world and the "iwanna" be like Mike artists are: 1. J Sutton out of the San Francisco area, 2. Fay Sirkis ( New York ) 3. Mara Dutra ( Arizona), 4. Helen Yancy ( Plymouth Mi ) 5. Karen Sperling ( the first portrait artist recognized by Corel ). I have taken classes by all of these great Master Artists. with the exception of our local Master Helen Yancy. I plan on attending her next workshop later this year. My favorite living artist however paints only oils and that is Leoniv Aftermov ( now residing in Oregon ). My most inspirational website is Deviant Art from Europe.

February 27, 2008 - 'Photoshop CS3 for Digital Photographers' presented by Drew Loehr

If you ever wondered or struggled with how to use curves adjustment layers to fix a color cast problem. Curious about finding an easy way to create darker skies using the Gradient tool or an easy technique for creating softer skin. Puzzled about how to use channels to create selections or neat tricks like creating out of bound effects. Uncomfortable with advanced extraction techniques, then this is the LCPG program you can not miss.

September 26, 2007 - Program Speaker- Mike Bitondo "Fun with Filters- From the Basics to the Bizarre"

This will be a discussion with some slides showing examples of what various filters can do, mostly the Cokin P system. We'll cover the basics such as polarizers, graduated filters and neutral density to some you've probably never heard of. Ever heard of a ColorBack filter? How about a Diffractor Universe? Maybe you've heard of a Singh Ray Gold-n-Blue Polarizer (no, I don't have one of those) but have you seen a Purple-Orange Polarizer? I'm really good at shopping in stores, photo websites and Ebay for these filters, but I haven't been very creative when it comes to using them. However, since agreeing to do this talk I have come up with some ideas and plan to have a presentation with interesting examples on how to use these filters.

March 28, 2007 - Program Speaker - Howard Bond · "Composition"

In many competition-oriented camera clubs, it is necessary to adhere to
certain "rules of composition" in order to obtain high scores. Yet,
prominent photographers don't seem to know or care about such rules.
Howard Bond will present some alternative ways of thinking about
composition.

Howard Bond began photographing in 1945 & after periods of making pictures for others & a brief music career has been engaged in photography as a fine-art since the 60's concentrating on self-assigned photography since 1979 and has been making b&w prints that are sold directly & by galleries. This is both his joy and his livelihood. His photographs are in the collections of more than 30 museums in the US and Europe. He has published 2 books and 22 limited edition portfolios of prints & has had over 60 one-man exhibitions & 40 group exhibitions, mostly in museums and galleries. He has also taught workshops, does lectures & writes articles on photography. He is a master printer with great vision whose works are always technically perfect & aesthetically beautiful at the same time.
